They don't I agree.  I didn't think they would need it at all though even in school but my husband made a good point: Gym class could = blood and collisions.  That means my kids are now getting it before school but still not as babies.

They don't.  My understanding is that Hep B can be spread by needles, tranfusions, and sex.  So, they just vaccinate when they are babies instead of when they are older and might actually be exposed to Hep B.  This is one vaccine that could wait if you are nervous about vaccinating a baby that is only hours old.

I'm wondering how many parents out there have been vaccinated for hep b.  I haven't b/c I don't think it is necessary myself b/c I am not at risk for it.  If I'm not at risk I certainly don't think that my young children are so they haven't been vaxed for it and won't be until they are adults and make a decision on their own.  My husband decided to get it b/c he is in law enforcement and is exposed to diseases like this on a somewhat regular basis.  He has had to be tested for hep and hiv before b/c of interactions.

I vaccinated my kids for it (at birth) because I've heard WAY too many stories about kids getting Hep B from unexpected sources, such as in the hospital!  A friend of a friend has a daughter that contracted Hep B after being hospitalized for RSV as an infant and now she will eventually need a liver transplant.  I'd rather get the vaccine and not take any chances.

Also, my husband and I have both been vaccinated.  My H was vaccinated in college because he routinely had contact with someone who was positive and I was vaccinated before we went overseas.

Nope!  There is a good argument for it around puberty and even stronger before college but the arguments for a newborn are very flimsy IMO.
