Multiple Births

Here are my questions:

Did you give birth to multiples? How many? How much did they weigh? Were they conceived naturally or with "help"?

Was it your first pregnancy? Do you have any other children? How many? Any other sets of multiples?

What week did you make it to?

How long did the babies stay in the hospital?

Were there any complications during the pregnancy or birth? What kind?

Were there any complications after birth? What kind?

My first pregnancy resulted in fraternal twin girls. I was NOT on any type of fertility treatment. They were born at 30 weeks and spent 1 day short of 6 weeks in the hospital (only 1 1/2 days in the NICU). I had severe hyperemesis from 7-9 weeks and was on an anti-nausea medication pump for a month after. My girls were born via C-Section due to their prematurity and both were breech. They both suffered from reflux until 9 months old. They just turned 6 and started full day kindergarten this fall. Luckily, they have not suffered from any other complications or problems. Their father has not been involved at all so we live at home with my mom and stepdad. I decided to stay home with them and work part time in the evenings rather than place them in day care. One of them was diagnosed with mild/moderate autism at 23 months old.

i had twin, 2 boys.

It was my 2nd pregnancy, We have a son who was 2 1/2 at the time.

I was induced at 37 weeks.

Baby A was in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks, baby B was in for 5 days.

There were no complications during the preg. everthing looked good.

After the birth they both started having problems breathing.  Turns out they were both born with Tetrology of Fellot. It's a heart condition where there are 4 things wrong with the heart.  Baby A was really sick and underwent open heart surgery when he was 3 days old. He came home and seemed fine.  One night he was acting fussy.  He died in my arms when he was 28 days old.  Baby B, had surgery when he was 4 months old and is doing fine.

I got pregnant with identical twin girls at age 21. I gave birth to them at age 22.

They were my first pregnancy.

They were conceived naturally.

I have fraternal twins (and triplets) up the butt in my family, but identicals DO NOT run in a blood line. They're utterly universal and random in all races, countries, age categories, etc. People also have a major misconception about the transfer of fraternal multiples. They can only be intergenerational along the MOTHER'S side. The father could be a quadruplet himself and it will not increase the chances of the couple bearing multiples. The trait is known as "hyperovulation" and is completely dependent upon female genetics. So the mother has to have multiples in her family tree and fertility treatments that result in multiples do not count.

I carried them to 36 weeks. Not a bit of morning sickness. No high blood pressure, no bed rest, no gestational diabetes, no swelling, no preterm labor, no nothing. I felt like a million bucks the whole time! I never went into labor, nor did my cervix even thin or dilate (it was dubbed by medical staff "the cervix of steel" lol), but they were a scheduled c-section at 36 weeks due to Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. TTTS can only occur in monochorionic/diamniotic pregnancies. Being identical, they shared a placenta and were receiving unequal blood flow and nutrients. We were diagnosed at just 12 weeks gestation, and a TTTS mom is never allowed to go past 36 weeks for fear of Acute TTTS. Due to early diagnosis and constant monitoring, the TTTS was very well maintained.

They were 5 lbs 12 oz and 6 lbs 5 oz at birth. I gained 55 lbs.

They needed absolutely no assistance after birth. We all left the hospital together three days later.

No complications with any of us after birth :o)

I have identical twin boys that were born at 35 weeks & they were my second pregnancy.  My oldest was 2 years old when they were born.  I had them via c section and we all went home together on day 3!!

They both have severe allergies and one has asthma.

First, mom2identicaltwinsfirls- thanks for putting that into medical terms. I have tried to explain those points to people, and they just don't seem to get it.

I had identical twin boys. Second pregnancy. My first was my daughter who was 9 when they were born.

They were watched closely for TTTS. They ended up fine. We scheduled the c-section for 2 days before 38 weeks, because I could barely walk, or breathe or sleep, because my belly was so big!(The specialist said it was perfectly fine to do this.)

I gained 54 pounds and ate like a crazy person!

They came home with me two days later. They were 6 pounds 2 ounces and 5 pounds 3 ounces. The smaller boy had to have a car seat challenge before we could leave and a few small issues that have since been addressed.

They are wonderful perfect little men. The smaller boy has been in speech therapy adn occupationsl therapy adn is getting ready to get evaluated for possible Aspbergers (sp?).

They are fantastic and best friends and so much fun to have two of them!

I have twin boys....they are so much fun right now!

This was my first pregnancy. I starting have trouble with shortened cervix at 27 wks so was put on strict bedrest at that time.

They were born via c-section (my choice)  Twin A was head down but B was breech so I could have attempted a vaginal birth but decided against it.  They were born at 36wks 2 days.

Erik weighed in at 5lbs 3oz and Isaac was 6lbs 4oz.  We all went home after 3 days in the hospital.  Both babies had reflux and were put on meds at 1 month of age but now both are off meds and doing fabulous. They are almost 15 months and full of spunk and fun! :-)
